Tarsier provides continuous, automatic runway inspections day and night; even in the heaviest ground traffic.
Tarsier uses advanced radar technology to provide a revolutionary solution to the age-old issue of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) detection, location and verification. As air traffic increases, airports are increasingly under pressure to maximise their primary asset - the runway. Current manual detection methods can only provide intermittent visual inspections throughout the day.
Tarsier constantly monitors runway areas 24 hours a day and gives automatic alerts providing accurate GPS co-ordinates. Visual identification of FOD can determine whether or not the foreign object is a threat.
Tarsier is a proven system and enables airports to fine tune their operations to match increasing capacity demands and adjust processes to improve operational efficiency. Airlines benefit from Tarsier not only by improved safety, but by decreasing the risk of FOD damage to aircraft.
The technology behind Tarsier has been developed from QinetiQ's long heritage in military radar and optical design where it is essential that equipment is durable, robust and reliable to operate in some of the harshest environments. Tarsier is proven and has successfully operated in temperate, desert and snow belt climate zones around the world.

The Zephyr unmanned ultra-lightweight aircraft is designed to fly over long distances at high altitudes powered by solar energy.
The Zephyr Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) is an ultra-lightweight carbon fibre aircraft, weighing just 30kg, despite a wingspan of 18 metres. It flies on solar power generated by amorphous silicon arrays covering the aircraft’s wings, no thicker than sheets of paper. Zephyr is powered day and night by lithium-sulphur batteries that are recharged during the day using solar power.
The aircraft uses a bespoke autopilot system to navigate between waypoints and to remove the requirement for permanent manual operation.
Zephyr has secured a place in the history of UAV development by exceeding the world record for the longest duration unmanned flight. The high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) aircraft achieved a 54-hour flight, reaching an altitude of 58,355 feet in August 2007.
Applications for Zephyr include earth observation and communication relay.
Benefits
SPO-20 stand-off people screening solution designed to detect concealed threats.
SPO-20 is the only real-time people-screening solution in the world to offer automatic multi-threat detection at stand-off distances of up to 30 metres. The system offers high throughput of 380 people per hour, remote real-time detection at distances of up to 100 metres, and is multi-threat capable - detecting weapons and explosives at safe stand-off distances.
It is passive and non-imaging, providing the operator with a simple automated ‘traffic light’ threat alert upon which to act, and requires minimal training - three hours maximum, with minimal logistical and operational impact. The system is also portable - it weighs 50kg, rapidly deployable in less than 15 minutes, and enjoys a flexible modular design offering stand-alone or integrated functionality.
The system can be deployed, overtly or covertly, in a wide range of both permanent and semi-permanent installations, such as natural chokepoints and building entrances. It also provides a less intrusive and, where appropriate, more covert alternative to conventional portable people screening methods.
Benefits
Ocellus GPS/GPRS tracking products for monitoring the location of vehicles and assets of all kinds.
The Ocellus range of GPS/GPRS tracking products enables users to monitor the location of vehicles and assets of all kinds. Ocellus products are based on QinetiQ’s own High Sensitivity GPS - so sensitive that it enables installation and operation without external antennas or complex wiring installations. Ocellus products are therefore particularly suitable for operation in and under vehicles.
Ocellus products are compact, self-contained, rugged, weather-proof, and designed for portability or permanent installation, with exceptional battery life on internal rechargeable batteries. The web-based QinetiQ Tracking Service provides the user with real time location information and alerts on user-configurable events.
Ocellus products are designed for: Surveillance - compact and self-contained, for long autonomous deployments and covert installation using the magnetic bracket provided Profit protection - track covertly using S100 concealed in consignments
Portable tracking - locate hire vehicles, remote workers, VIPs
Logistics and fleet management - for trailers, construction plant and equipment
Ocellus is available in two models: the S100 model is portable and designed for quick attachment/detachment, and the T100 model - the rugged trailer tracking model.
